It's a Wrap...Kate Triumphs in her First Composer

Kate's final performance of Ariadne auf Naxos with the 2013 Glyndebourne Festival was July 11th, and for her debut as the Composer, it was obvious that audiences and critics alike adored her!  If you weren't able to make it to the English countryside this summer to see Kate's performance, here are some highlights of reviews and photos...

"The American mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey, in the part of the Composer, stole the show. She both sang and acted the role of the stroppy young composer, petulantly refusing to compromise her artistic ideals, superbly."

- Express, William Hartston

"Things come exquisitely into focus as mezzo Kate Lindsey sings her first aria as the Composer, perfectly catching the evanescent beauty of its shifting tones and moods."

- The Independent, MIchael Church

"Lindsey steals the show with her gleaming tone, dramatic subtlety and palpable commitment."

- The Guardian, Tim Ashley

"...Rich-voiced American mezzo Kate Lindsey triumphs as the hot-headed composer.

- Bloomberg, Warwick Thompson

"Strauss was adamant that the mezzo-soprano 'as a rule is the most talented woman singer in the theatre' and so it was here, with Kate Lindsey making her Glyndebourne and role début as a poetic, neurotic Composer. Lindsey acted the role of the hyper-sensitive young man to perfection..."

-Music OMH, Melanie Eskenazie

"...the wiry and intense and thoroughly excellent Kate Lindsey..."

- The Arts Desk, Edward Seckerson

"And what a Glyndebourne debut by Kate Lindsey, the stand-out singing performance of the evening. Lindsey has attractive stage presence, energy in the voice and a lovely sense of melodic line, well supported throughout her register. The colour in her voice is dark and incisive in the low passages and silvery at the upper end. What is more, as Act Two showed, she can act effectively without singing a note... Lindsey is clearly going to go far."

- Musical Criticism, Mike Reynolds
